Zak Brown Asserts: ‘We Have Two Number One Drivers Racing’

Formula 1 has a history of intense rivalries between teammates.

From Senna vs. Prost to Hamilton vs. Rosberg, these battles often disrupted their teams, leading to splits. Despite this, McLaren’s CEO Zak Brown believes having two top drivers, Norris and Piastri, will work for their team.

Brown is confident that the past won’t repeat itself with his current drivers. “They both want to be number one and they are both number ones,” he said in an interview with Autosport. He emphasized that communication and respect are key. “They race for the team and respect our decision to run two number-one cars.”

Brown: ‘Both are very respectful of our decisions’

But what if things get tricky? Remember Hungary when Norris let Piastri pass for a win? Both have tasted victory this season, with Norris winning in Miami. Their competitive MCL38 car might force McLaren into tough calls to secure wins in future races.

“Later in the championship, if one driver has a better shot, we might strategize differently,” Brown admitted. However, he assured that they treat both drivers equally and make decisions respectfully. “It’s a great garage environment,” he concluded.

Fans might wonder if Norris and Piastri will clash as the season progresses.

So far, they’ve managed well without issues. But will they continue to get along? Only time will tell. What do you think?
