Windsor Clarifies Norris Mistake: ‘Red Flag Stop Wasn’t Just Luck’

Max Verstappen‘s win at the Brazilian Grand Prix wasn’t just because of luck, says Peter Windsor. He was amazed by how much faster Verstappen was compared to everyone else on the track, even though Lando Norris thought luck played a part in his victory.

Windsor said in a video, “Probably is Max’s best-ever win. Now, I know there are lots of chattering voices out there saying, ‘oh yeah, but he didn’t just go all the way through the field. He had to have the help from the red flag and the Atlas of Strategy call. It was luck, whatever it was. Plus, he was stuck behind Charles for too long, really, to be right up there with the very best, blah, blah, blah.'”

He argued that it wasn’t just luck or strategy with the red flag; it was about how Max used his tires better than anyone else during that tricky first part of the race. The newly resurfaced Interlagos track made it hard to find grip in wet conditions.

Verstappen peerlessly fast

Windsor noted that starting from 17th place was a big challenge for Verstappen. “Where you can’t really go off-line. There wasn’t a lot of crud off-line. There wasn’t a place you could go different from the normal racing line because of this new surface,” he explained.

By the end of the race, Verstappen had pulled nearly 20 seconds ahead of Esteban Ocon. Fans might wonder if TV coverage missed something special as they didn’t focus much on him after he took the lead. Windsor counted 15 fastest laps once Max passed Ocon. This wasn’t about pushing limits; it was about feeling and using grip wisely as the track got faster towards the end.

Some fans think Verstappen’s skill shone more than any lucky break.

What do you think? Was it skill or luck?
