Williams F1 is about to get a major boost heading into 2025, with team boss James Vowles hinting at some “brilliant news” on the horizon.
The historic British team had a rough ride in 2024, dealing with multiple crashes that stretched their repair budget to the limit. But things are looking up.
They’ve just landed a game-changing signing in Carlos Sainz, who’s bringing more than just his driving skills to the team. The former Ferrari star is already attracting big-name sponsors, including banking giant Santander.
“The commercial landscape is completely different from where we were two years ago,” Vowles says. “And there’s some brilliant news coming in the next six months.”
It’s been a long road for Williams. The team hasn’t won a championship since 1997 – that’s 27 years without tasting glory at the top of Formula 1.
Their 2024 season was particularly challenging. They started with Alexander Albon and Logan Sargeant, but Sargeant’s struggles and multiple crashes forced a mid-season change. Franco Colapinto stepped in and showed promise, though the team’s repair bills kept piling up.
Vowles has big plans for turning things around.
“What I really wanted to achieve is get the right people into the organization, change the culture, change the technology, change the infrastructure,” he explains. “It’s all happening – maybe a little slower than I’d like, but that’s just because I’m incredibly ambitious.”
The Sainz signing is already proving to be a masterstroke. It’s not just about having a top driver – it’s about showing the F1 world that Williams means business again.
“We’re not judging success by a single race or result,” Vowles says. “It’s about whether we’re stepping forward. If you can see a significant change in what we’re doing, then we’re on the right track.”
With their new driver, fresh sponsorship deals, and more good news apparently on the way, Williams might just be F1’s team to watch in 2025.
