Logan Sargeant is off to another rough start in Formula One and hasn’t scored any points yet. Last year, he managed to get just one point for Williams, while Alex Albon did most of the heavy lifting, helping the team finish seventh in the Constructors’ standings. On The Red Flags podcast, Guenther Steiner shared his thoughts on Sargeant and speculated about his future with the team.
James Vowles has made it clear that Carlos Sainz is his top priority for 2025. With Albon’s contract extended, it looks like Sargeant might be out of a seat soon. When asked when Williams might replace Sargeant, Steiner guessed it could happen by the end of the year. He added, “I don’t know how the contract is phrased. There’s a lot of stuff going on there which we don’t know.”
At Some Stage, Enough is Enough
There’s been a lot of talk about Sargeant’s future due to his poor performance this season. Earlier this year, Williams applied for a superlicense for 17-year-old F2 driver Kimi Antonelli. Recently, the FIA changed its rules to allow certain drivers to receive a superlicense at 17 instead of 18. However, Mercedes seems more interested in Antonelli.
Steiner believes that sometimes tough decisions are necessary when a driver isn’t performing well enough. “First of all, you always try to work with the people you’ve got,” he said. “You need to show in a team that you try to do your best. Obviously, at some stage, enough is enough.”
Fans might feel like it’s time for Williams to make a change.
Although Steiner thinks Sargeant will stay until the end of the season, he didn’t rule out an earlier replacement if things don’t improve soon. So far this season, Sargeant has failed to finish two races and hasn’t scored any points; his best finish was 15th place .
“I think it will go till the end,” Steiner said cautiously but added that if more bad results come before or after summer break, someone else might take over sooner than expected.
What do you think? Should Williams give Logan more time or find someone new?
