Why Mercedes Feels Anxious Before the Hungarian Grand Prix

Mercedes is feeling a bit anxious as they prepare for the upcoming races in Hungary.

Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes’ engineering director, shared that despite recent wins, the team is nervous about maintaining their performance.

Could Mercedes win in Hungary?

Mercedes has improved a lot since the start of the season. They are now fourth in the Constructors’ standings, just 74 points behind McLaren. Both Russell and Hamilton have secured wins this year. Hamilton might even break his own record again; he recently set a new record for most wins at a single track with his ninth win at Silverstone. With eight wins already in Hungary, he could do it again.

Shovlin remains cautious though. He noted that while they’ve made progress, they still aren’t on par with McLaren or Red Bull. “If you look at what is the big difference for Hungary, it’s probably this is the test of whether or not we have got on top of our long run performance in hot conditions,” he said. In Barcelona and Austria, they couldn’t keep up with Norris or Verstappen over long runs.

Fans might be wondering if Mercedes can surprise everyone again like they did at Silverstone.

Shovlin mentioned that they’ve learned from past races and are working hard to prepare better setups for Hungary. They hope to address issues seen in previous races and start strong.

What do you think? Can Mercedes pull off another win?
