Why Hamilton Capitalizes When Verstappen’s Speed Isn’t Enough

Max Verstappen might just have the edge over Lewis Hamilton – at least according to veteran F1 analyst Peter Windsor.

The debate over who’s the better driver has been raging since their epic 2021 championship battle. That season gave us everything: crashes, controversy, and one of the most talked-about finales in F1 history.

Verstappen grabbed his first title that year, while Hamilton missed out on what would’ve been a record-breaking eighth championship.

Things have changed quite a bit since then. Verstappen’s been absolutely dominating F1 for the past three years, while Hamilton’s only managed to win twice during that stretch.

Now Hamilton’s making waves with his surprise move to Ferrari for 2024, hoping to do something no driver’s ever done – win championships with three different teams.

During a recent YouTube livestream, Windsor shared his thoughts on the sport’s biggest stars. He sees three drivers who stand out from the pack: Hamilton, Verstappen, and Charles Leclerc.

“They all drive differently,” Windsor explained. “But they can all do these amazing things with the car – the way they handle corners, work the pedals, and use the steering wheel. It’s pretty incredible stuff.”

He puts these three ahead of everyone else on the grid, including rising stars Lando Norris and George Russell.

Windsor did acknowledge Hamilton’s recent struggles against his Mercedes teammate Russell. “I think Lewis has been a bit confused by the whole situation at Mercedes – nothing seemed to work right. But I’m absolutely sure he’s still got all that talent.”

When pushed to pick between Verstappen and Hamilton, Windsor didn’t hesitate:

“I’d probably go with Max,” he said. “But give Lewis a good car, and he’ll be right there with him. Max might be better in a difficult car, though – you’ve got to consider that when making the comparison.”

The real test could come next year, when Hamilton takes on a new challenge in Ferrari red. Will he prove Windsor wrong? We’ll have to wait and see.
