Verstappen’s Next Move? Montoya Teases Unexpected F1 Team Switch

Max Verstappen could end up at Aston Martin in a few years – and it actually makes a lot of sense, according to racing legend Juan Pablo Montoya.

The former F1 star thinks Aston Martin’s ambitious plans, plus some familiar faces, might just tempt the Dutch champion to make a surprising switch.

“I don’t think Lance is as bad as people say,” Montoya told InstantCasino.com, defending current driver Lance Stroll. “He’s gotten better, but I’m not sure what’s the little bit that he’s missing.”

But it’s the other seat that’s really interesting.

Fernando Alonso isn’t getting any younger. By 2028, when Aston Martin might be ready to fight for championships, he’ll be pushing 47 or 48 years old.

That timing could be perfect for Verstappen.

The current setup at Aston Martin is getting stronger by the day. They’re investing heavily in their future, and they’ve made some pretty impressive moves – like bringing in legendary designer Adrian Newey.

Here’s where it gets interesting: Newey and Honda (Aston Martin’s future engine partner) are two names Verstappen knows well from his dominant years at Red Bull.

“It wouldn’t be the most surprising thing in the world if Max Verstappen joined Aston Martin, would it?” Montoya says. “Honda and Newey; they’d be pretty happy to have Max driving the car.”

The team probably won’t be ready to challenge for titles until 2027 or 2028. But that timing could work perfectly – both for Verstappen looking for a new challenge and for Aston Martin needing a superstar driver.

Of course, a lot depends on whether Lance Stroll still wants to race by then, and if Aston Martin can deliver on their ambitious plans.

But one thing’s clear: Verstappen in British racing green? It’s not as crazy as it might sound.
