Max Verstappen still favorite for F1 title despite Red Bull concerns
Max Verstappen can still become world champion again this year, according to Viaplay analysts Mike Hezemans and Rudy van Buren, despite concerns after the Bahrain test days.
“The champion will still be Max Verstappen, even if he himself thinks otherwise,” says Hezemans confidently.
Van Buren, who works as Red Bull Racing’s simulator driver, backs up this optimism: “I just keep it on Dutch pride. We just keep having faith in Max.”
Not everyone agrees though. Former F1 engineer Kees van de Grint is hoping Lewis Hamilton finally claims that record-breaking eighth world title next season.
When it comes to race wins, the experts are much less optimistic about Verstappen’s chances.
“If we remain optimistic, eight,” predicts Van Buren.
Van de Grint and Hezemans are even more cautious, betting on just five or six wins respectively for the Dutch champion. That’s a big drop from his dominant performances in recent seasons.
## Constructor’s championship looking different
The three analysts all agree on one thing – McLaren is set to take the constructor’s title.
“That will be McLaren. They just have the best car overall,” explained Hezemans.
The experts are split on which drivers or teams might disappoint this year. Hezemans points to rookie Jack Doohan, while Van de Grint thinks Ferrari newcomer Oliver Bearman might struggle.
Van Buren has a different take. He believes Sauber as a complete team will be the biggest disappointment of the 2025 season.
With pre-season testing showing mixed results for Red Bull, the upcoming season could be much more competitive than recent years. The first race will tell us if these predictions hold any weight.
