Max Verstappen Unfazed By Title Battle: “If We Win It, Great. If Not, Life Goes On”
The defending world champion gained ground on leader Oscar Piastri after winning in Baku, where the Australian failed to finish.
“Well from my side honestly I just see it as a race by race thing,” Verstappen said when asked about his championship chances.
The gap still stands at 69 points – a substantial margin with limited races remaining.
“McLaren has been incredibly dominant, that doesn’t suddenly change,” he added, acknowledging the challenge ahead.
Verstappen’s relaxed approach stands out amid the pressure of a championship fight. He seems genuinely at peace with whatever outcome awaits.
“I’m not too stressed about anything. I’m just enjoying what I’m doing in F1, outside of it, having fun. Just trying to do the best I can every single time that I jump in the car.”
The Dutchman recognizes that track characteristics will play a crucial role in the remaining races.
“Some tracks naturally will be a bit better for us, some probably a bit worse. Maybe this one a bit worse.”
His philosophy remains refreshingly straightforward.
“If we win it, we win it. Great. If we don’t, we don’t. Life goes on.”
The tables have turned from last season when Lando Norris was the one chasing Verstappen. Now it’s Max who finds himself in the hunter position against the McLarens.
“[I’ve got] nothing to lose really. I mean, as a team, we just approach it like that,” he explained.
Red Bull is focusing on improving their car’s competitiveness, especially at tracks where they’ve struggled this season.
“We try to do the best we can, try to be more competitive, try to hopefully confirm that the direction we took with the car is more competitive also on a track like this.”
## What Are His Chances?
During today’s press conference, drivers weighed in on Verstappen’s title odds.
George Russell jokingly gave him 100%, while Charles Leclerc was more conservative at 20%.
When asked for his own assessment, Verstappen kept it simple: “50%. Because I do or I don’t.”
That matter-of-fact response perfectly captures his current mindset – focused but not obsessed with the championship battle.
