Verstappen & Red Bull Face Continued Challenges: Eyeing 2026 for a Turnaround

Helmut Marko shared his thoughts after the Singapore GP: “Second place [in Singapore] was equivalent to a win for us.” He admitted that Max Verstappen could only manage damage control and noted that Charles Leclerc was faster in the final stint, meaning bad luck could have cost them P2.

Marko explained that if Lando Norris wins every remaining race and sprint, but Verstappen finishes second each time, the Dutchman can still clinch the title. However, Marko added, “Only finishing second is far too little.” Beating Norris and his strong McLaren team won’t be easy since their car has been the best on the grid for months now.

Interestingly, Red Bull’s performance started to dip after Adrian Newey’s departure was announced earlier this season. “Newey is no longer with us from March next year and is no longer involved in the current car. It’s a rhetorical question. We have a broad-based team and that should solve this,” said Marko.

Aging Wind Tunnel Remains a Problem:

Marko thinks their old wind tunnel is part of the problem, while McLaren has new facilities. “A modern wind tunnel would help us. Our wind tunnel dates from just after World War II. That, of course, has its drawbacks. It takes a very long time to raise the temperature in it. The tunnel is out of date and I hope that in ’26 our new wind tunnel can be put into operation,” he concluded.

Fans might wonder if Red Bull can overcome these challenges and return to their winning ways.

The aging equipment sounds like a big hurdle for Red Bull . What do you think?
