Max Verstappen and Lando Norris face million-euro bills for F1 super licences
F1 stars Max Verstappen and Lando Norris will each have to shell out over a million euros just for the right to race next season.
Every Formula 1 driver pays for their FIA super licence based on how many points they scored the previous year. It’s not cheap.
For 2026, drivers start with a base fee of €11,842. Then they pay an extra €2,392 for every championship point they earned in 2025.
This year’s biggest bill goes to Norris. The McLaren driver won his first world title with 423 points, landing him with a super licence cost of €1,023,658.
That’s about €5,000 more than Verstappen has to pay.
The tiny difference comes down to just two championship points separating the rivals. Verstappen’s bill totals €1,018,874.
Oscar Piastri isn’t far behind the million-euro mark either. The Australian scored 410 points, resulting in €992,562 in licence fees.
The costs drop off significantly after the top three.
George Russell will pay €774,890, while Charles Leclerc faces a €590,706 bill. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton‘s licence costs €384,994.
Rookie sensation Kimi Antonelli also faces a hefty €370,642 payment after his impressive first season.
At the other end of the spectrum, several drivers only pay the minimum €11,842 fee, including Sergio Perez, Valtteri Bottas, and newcomer Arvid Lindblad.
