Verstappen Jokes About 10-Second Penalties: ‘Aiming for a New Record Next Time’

Max Verstappen stayed cool when asked about the 20-second penalties he got after racing against Lando Norris. He even joked about breaking records with penalties.

Verstappen didn’t go into detail about the two 10-second penalties from his race with Norris in Mexico City. Instead, he made light of it: “Maybe they should target 30 next time and go for the record,” he laughed while chatting with DAZN post-race.

Verstappen’s Take on Penalties

Later, in the paddock at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, someone asked him if stewards are inconsistent because Norris only got a five-second penalty in Austin. Verstappen shrugged it off, saying, “Let’s try 20 next year. Yeah, it doesn’t matter. I have no opinion.”

Earlier this year, penalties for what Verstappen did went up from five to ten seconds, although sometimes drivers still get five-second penalties. Verstappen isn’t bothered by whether these penalties are too harsh or not. “Honestly it’s also not in my interest. I just keep racing,” he said.

Fans might think these penalties are a bit much for just racing hard.

Racing is full of surprises, like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re gonna get!

In the end, Verstappen seems unfazed by the rules and just wants to focus on driving fast. What do you think about these penalties?
