Verstappen Identifies Perez’s Challenges in Hungary: ‘Obviously Difficult’

Sergio Perez has faced a lot of criticism lately for his performance at Red Bull Racing.

During the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying, he slid off the track, causing a red flag. Verstappen defended him to the press.

Verstappen on Perez’s Qualifying Incident

When asked if the incident was more about the car than Perez, Verstappen said it was partly due to tricky weather conditions. “Of course it’s also just difficult, but here it had to do with the weather,” he explained. He mentioned McLaren’s strong performance as an example and added, “Then it’s just difficult (for us), because the car is also just really tricky, and it’s difficult to find the right balance.”

Fans might think this shows how tough Formula 1 can be.

Verstappen on Sunday’s Race

Starting from third place on Sunday, Verstappen will have both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri ahead of him. This could make overtaking harder since they are teammates. However, Verstappen isn’t worried about that.

“If you are fast enough, it all doesn’t matter,” he said confidently. “If you are faster you overtake them anyway… You can never put it down to that, that it’s one car against two.” He concluded by saying he doesn’t think being faster is an issue right now either.

What do you think? Will Verstappen manage to overtake them?
