Max Verstappen called a moment during the Brazilian Grand Prix “very sketchy.” He won the race despite starting from 17th place, and his car felt like it was floating on water.
After the race, Verstappen shared his mixed feelings. “I don’t even know where to start,” he said. His day was a wild ride, going from almost wrecking the garage to winning. The three-time World Champion didn’t make it into Q3 and was upset about how long it took to get a red flag after Lance Stroll‘s crash.
Verstappen knew starting at P17 meant he could still have a good race. He realized qualifying had only one clear line, making overtaking hard. But he got off to a strong start in the race with a good first lap.
He found himself stuck behind Yuki Tsunoda in a DRS train for quite some time. “We just picked off drivers here and there,” he explained. “It was still a very long race, actually. We made the right calls. Some pitted. The rain was coming, we stayed out which was very sketchy.”
The RB20 turned into a boat in Brazil
The heavy rain made things even harder for Verstappen. “Then I saw Esteban in front of me flying, like four seconds a lap faster,” he said. He just wanted to keep his car on track as conditions worsened.
“It was simply undriveable,” Verstappen noted. Even extreme tires wouldn’t have worked due to the track’s quick flooding. “It almost felt like I was driving a boat, a jet ski,” he joked, adding that jet skis might handle corners better than his car did that day!
Fans might think this race showed Verstappen’s true grit and skill under pressure.
Despite all these challenges, Verstappen managed to win, leaving everyone impressed by his resilience and talent. What do you think about his performance?
