Verstappen Comments on Norris’ Title Pursuit: ‘I Don’t See It That Way’

The gap between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris got a bit smaller after the Italian Grand Prix, where Charles Leclerc took first place.

Norris has a much better car than Verstappen’s RB20 right now, and even Verstappen isn’t sure how his team can fix their balance issues quickly.

Verstappen Not Focused on Norris in Standings

After the race at Monza, Verstappen was not happy with his car at all. He did note that Norris finishing third helped limit the damage. “In a way, yes, but that’s not how I like to look at the championship. We have to go from our old fortunes, and today it’s all good,” he said.

Right now, the RB20 has many problems. The car is unbalanced, and on Monza’s long straights, Verstappen couldn’t keep up with Hamilton. When asked about fixing this, he admitted: “Unfortunately, I don’t have a degree in engineering or aerodynamics, but I think I gave everything that I could.”

Challenges for Verstappen and Red Bull

At Monza, Red Bull struggled not just with speed compared to McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes but also with balance. This made it hard for Verstappen to take some corners properly. “I think for everyone what we have to do. It’s just now we have to turn it around, and it’s not easy to do that very quickly. And then I hope if we can put that on the car that it becomes more driveable,” he concluded.

In the last six races, Verstappen hasn’t won any. At the start of the season, it looked like he would easily get his fourth world title. Now he’s really being challenged by Norris.

Fans might wonder if this means a big shift in the championship race.
