Verstappen Calls for F1 Sprint Race Format Change: ‘Too Excessive’

Max Verstappen isn’t holding back about what he’d change in Formula 1, and his top priority is pretty clear: fewer races.

The three-time world champion has never been shy about criticizing F1’s new direction. And when asked what single rule he’d change if he could, his answer was quick and direct.

"Less races," he said bluntly.

Speaking in London before the F1 75 Live event, Verstappen explained why he feels so strongly about the packed calendar.

"It’s too many. I think we’re travelling quite a lot," he said. "There are a lot of things that can be changed, but you have to understand from the commercial side. I’m looking at it from a pure driver perspective."

It’s not the only thing bothering the Dutch superstar. Last year, he made headlines when he protested the FIA’s strict rules about driver language by giving super-short answers during press conferences in Singapore.

The sprint races? He’s not a fan of those either.

When asked about the FIA’s latest conduct guidelines and potential punishments, Verstappen kept things close to the vest. But he did hint that these rules might affect how much he’ll say to the media going forward.

For a driver who’s dominating the sport right now, Verstappen’s pushing back against what he sees as too much – too many races, too many rules, too many restrictions on how drivers can express themselves.
