Toyota Triumphs at WEC 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, Porsches Secure Podium Spots

The #8 Toyota, driven by Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa, dominated the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo race and took a clear victory.

Meanwhile, the #6 and #5 Porsche cars finished second and third in this World Endurance Championship race.

Toyota much stronger than Porsche

At first, everything looked great for the #7 Toyota with Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries. They started from pole position and led comfortably over their teammates in the #8 car and even more so over the Porsches. But things went south after a drive-through penalty during a full-course yellow and some refueling issues that ruined their pit stop.

Despite these setbacks, the team managed an impressive comeback to finish fourth. Kobayashi’s final stint was particularly strong. Though they missed out on a podium finish, there was still plenty to celebrate for Toyota. The bad luck of car #7 turned into good fortune for car #8, which cruised to victory without any threats. In fact, they finished almost 1 minute and 9 seconds ahead of the first Porsche! The second Porsche trailed by more than seven seconds.

Fans might think it’s surprising how unpredictable racing can be!

Jenson Button had been doing well in his JOTA until late in the race when he got hit with a stop-and-go penalty due to a technical issue. This dropped him from fourth place to seventh by the end of the race. Ferrari also didn’t perform as expected; they had won at Le Mans but struggled here. Mick Schumacher earned his team its first point of the season by finishing tenth with his Alpine teammates.
