David Coulthard is a huge fan of Max Verstappen.
The former F1 driver loves watching Verstappen race for Red Bull Racing. If asked to name the top three drivers from the team, which is celebrating its 20th year in Formula 1, he’d say: “Max, Max and Max.”
Twenty years ago, Coulthard was the first to drive for Red Bull Racing in Formula 1. The early years were tough; it took time for the team to become a major force. Over the years, two drivers have won world championships with Red Bull: Sebastian Vettel (4 times) and Max Verstappen (3 times). Even though Vettel has more titles for now, Coulthard still ranks Verstappen higher.
Coulthard respects Vettel’s achievements but told Motorsport.com: “If you look at his career as a whole, Seb was not as impressive at the end as when he grabbed his world titles. Look at Michael Schumacher at Mercedes, he too was no longer as impressive in that period as he was in his Ferrari days. It shows that everyone has their own time, but I think it is natural to put Max at one.”
Webber chosen over Ricciardo
Coulthard believes Mark Webber deserves to be third on the list of best Red Bull drivers ever. He thinks Webber was more mature compared to Daniel Ricciardo, who he described as a “boy man” while calling Webber a “man man.” Plus, Ricciardo chose to leave Red Bull instead of competing with Verstappen and moved to Renault.
Fans might find this ranking interesting and debatable.
