Thailand Grand Prix Set for Bangkok Street Circuit in Major F1 Expansion

Thailand’s F1 Dream Takes Shape With New Bangkok Street Circuit Plans

F1 fans might soon be adding Thailand to their travel bucket list as plans for a Bangkok Grand Prix are picking up serious momentum.

The Sport Authority of Thailand just unveiled designs for an exciting street circuit right in the heart of Bangkok. The proposed track features 18 corners stretched across a 5.7km layout that would wind through the vibrant city streets.

Thailand is looking at a five-year deal running from 2028 to 2032. The race would likely happen in either March or September if F1 officials give the final green light.

This would be a home race for Williams driver Alex Albon, who competes under the Thai flag. Albon has been actively supporting the project, even meeting with government officials earlier this year to help push things forward.

Thailand is no stranger to top-tier motorsport. The country already hosts MotoGP at the Buriram circuit, but officials believe a street race in Bangkok would create a whole different kind of spectacle.

The push for a Thai Grand Prix follows the successful addition of street circuits in Miami and Las Vegas in recent years.

## Thailand’s F1 Journey So Far

Talks between the Thai government and Formula 1 have been heating up since 2024.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali visited Thailand in March 2025 for high-level meetings with Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Domenicali reportedly found the proposals for a Bangkok race weekend “impressive.”

The Thai government isn’t just talking—they’re putting serious money behind this effort.

In June 2025, Tourism Minister Sorawong Thienthong announced that the Thai cabinet had approved a massive $1.23 billion bid (40 billion baht) to secure the Grand Prix starting in 2028.

The investment shows just how seriously Thailand is taking its F1 ambitions. With stunning city views, vibrant culture, and world-famous hospitality, Bangkok could become one of the most exciting additions to the F1 calendar in years.
