Team Boss Personally Covers Salaries Twice for His Team

Otmar Szafnauer stepped down as team principal in 2022, but he hasn’t vanished from the racing scene. His company, Soft Pauer, now supports F1 teams with various services. In tough times, Szafnauer used his own money to keep his team afloat. He even paid all the salaries at Force India twice.

When he was with Force India (now Aston Martin), the team struggled financially. Rumors swirled that Szafnauer covered staff salaries using his business success. “Twice,” he confirmed on the High Performance podcast.

Szafnauer’s Quiet Generosity

His financial stability and businesses allowed him to ensure everyone got paid. “It was in the millions,” he explained. “I knew salaries wouldn’t be paid otherwise, and some people live paycheck to paycheck.” He couldn’t let that happen.

Only a few people knew about Szafnauer’s help, like those in finance. He didn’t want recognition for his actions; it wasn’t about being in the spotlight. “No, no it’s not what it’s about,” he said on the podcast.

Fans might think it’s pretty amazing how he helped without seeking praise.

Sometimes life throws curveballs, and you have to step up unexpectedly.

What do you think? Would you have done the same?
