Max Verstappen and Lando Norris are locked in a fierce battle for the championship. Even though Norris often loses points to Verstappen, Andrea Stella believes there’s no need for him to change how he drives.
Norris and Verstappen have crossed paths multiple times on the racetrack this year. Despite having a less competitive car, Verstappen frequently comes out on top. This has led Norris to be quite hard on himself, admitting before the Mexico race that he doesn’t feel very skilled at racing wheel-to-wheel.
Stella’s Perspective: “Lando’s glass is often half-empty”
While Norris tends to criticize his own performance, Stella sees things differently. He feels Norris undervalues his abilities and commends his driving approach. Stella explained, “I think Lando can look at his own racing often looking at the half-empty glass in relation to what he could do. But our conversations and our internal reviews have always been very clear. Lando, we like, we approve the way you go racing. It’s not for you to go there and try to find justice yourself. You go racing in a fair, sportive way like you do.”
He emphasized that it’s up to the stewards to judge maneuvers, advising Norris not to worry about proving himself. Fans might wonder if Norris will take this advice to heart or continue being tough on himself.
In Stella’s view, Lando should just focus on fair competition without feeling pressured to demonstrate anything extraordinary. This is both McLaren’s expectation and Lando’s personal goal.
What do you think? Should Lando be more confident or keep pushing himself harder?
