Steiner Predicts Expiry Dates for These F1 Drivers

The 2024 season is unique because all 20 drivers from the last race of 2023 returned for the first race of 2024. This rarely happens in Formula 1.

However, changes are coming next season, and some drivers will say goodbye to F1. Guenther Steiner shared his thoughts on who might not make it.

Guanyu Zhou might struggle to find a seat next year. “I think Zhou has had difficulty finding a seat again next year. I think Valtteri [Bottas] has now got the chance to stay at Sauber for next year because Carlos [Sainz] didn’t sign there. But otherwise, I think he’s [Zhou] one which is going. Kevin Magnussen, he hasn’t got a seat at the moment,” said Steiner.

Drivers Who Might Leave

Steiner believes some drivers didn’t perform well enough to keep their spots. He said, “There are a few drivers who are out. These are the drivers which didn’t show enough performance to justify a seat. People take, say, take a little bit of risk and take somebody new, which they know could be better.”

Next year is perfect for trying new talents because the cars are stable and experienced drivers can guide newcomers. Fans might wonder if this strategy will pay off with exciting new talents on the track.

Steiner understands why teams like Haas opt for young talent: “And then at least you find out for 2026 when the new rules come. All teams will think they will be world champions again. That’s like it always is in Formula 1.”

He added that every team believes they have a shot at being the best when new rules come into play in 2026.
