Kevin Magnussen got a race ban in Baku for getting 12 penalty points in 12 months.
Guenther Steiner, former Team Principal, shared his thoughts on the ban and how Magnussen reacted to it.
Steiner’s Lighthearted Take on the Ban:
In a chat on The Red Flags Podcast on YouTube, Steiner talked about Magnussen’s ban. He saw Magnussen at Monza after the news broke and noticed that he seemed to be taking it lightly. “I think he’s pretty happy. He’s got a long weekend. He’s chilled out about these things,” Steiner said. “I saw him when he was leaving, I told him, ‘Hey you can have a two week holiday now!’ And he laughed at it, so he didn’t seem upset about it.”
Steiner also mentioned that since Magnussen’s future in F1 is uncertain, the driver might not be too bothered by the ban. “He’s out of the seat anyway at the end of the year, he’s not going to win a lot of things in Baku,” Steiner added.
Fans might think it’s funny how relaxed Magnussen is about this situation.
When asked if Magnussen should still get paid during his suspension, Steiner thought he should. He explained that some penalty points were due to team orders from earlier in the season. “I would think so, some of the points he collected for the team. In the beginning of the year when he held up I don’t know who to get Nico to score (in Miami)…He held him up there, he got some penalty points there and it was clearly a team order.”
Magnussen is finishing his seventh season with Haas but won’t be with them next year.
