Red Bull leaders say everything is fine, and it’s normal for people to leave after lots of success. Will Courtenay, the Head of Race Strategy, was the latest to go. Guenther Steiner joked on the Red Flags Podcast, “Sooner or later, no one will be left at Red Bull. The empty offices because everybody’s going.”
Steiner thinks McLaren did well by signing Courtenay, who worked with him before. “Will has been there a long time; he knows strategy and rules. He’s been to so many races in the last 20 years. But maybe Red Bull didn’t need him anymore. Things like this happen in F1, but losing Will doesn’t make Red Bull stronger.”
Steiner Sees More Staff Leaving Red Bull
Steiner noted that Red Bull used to be the best at strategy with few mistakes. He believes he can help McLaren improve since “McLaren is not the strongest one in strategy.”
“It’s more than usual,” Steiner said. “Last year, nobody was leaving Red Bull. Now, people are leaving all over the place.” Fans might think this is surprising news.
He added that it’s like a chain reaction: when one person leaves, others follow. People think it’s a good move to leave now while their value is high because they were part of the best team for five years. If they wait too long and the team weakens, their value drops.
