Steiner Cautions Verstappen: ‘Avoid Mistakes at All Costs’

The second half of the Formula 1 season is starting with the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. Guenther Steiner shared his thoughts on what he expects for the rest of the season and Max Verstappen‘s performance.

Steiner believes Verstappen has a strong chance to win but must avoid errors.

Steiner: ‘Verstappen Must Not Make Mistakes’

Verstappen leads by 78 points over Lando Norris as they head into the summer break. The constructors’ race is tighter, so Red Bull Racing has more work ahead. Yet, Steiner still sees Verstappen as the top contender for this year’s world title.

“He’s got the biggest chance, but he can make no mistake. If he makes a few mistakes, he’s under pressure,” said Steiner. He also pointed out that McLaren could challenge if they stop making errors. “I think Lando can still get close to him if McLaren stop making [mistakes]. And this is not a criticism of McLaren. I think they’re doing a fantastic job. But if they believe in themselves, they can win every race, because you need to learn to win as well.”

Winning consistently is tough even with a good car, according to Steiner. “Winning is difficult, even if you’re a good car, but consistent winning is very difficult. So if they can take that little step up and win consistently… That they are not afraid of themselves, then I think Lando can challenge Max.”

Despite this potential, Steiner acknowledges it will be hard for McLaren and Norris to catch up fully. “If Max is solid and never makes mistakes, sometimes happy with the podium instead of the win, he has got a good advantage. As much as I like him, and he knows that, he needs to be careful,” Steiner concluded.

Fans might wonder if this will be an exciting battle or just another easy ride for Verstappen.
