Stefano Domenicali: ‘F1 Faces Competition Beyond Motorsports’

Stefano Domenicali has big dreams for the future of Formula 1, and he’s not just thinking about racing anymore. He sees F1 as competing with all kinds of entertainment, not just other motorsports.

The upcoming United States Grand Prix will kick off the 2024 season later this month, marking the second American race this year after Miami in May. In November, F1 will hit Las Vegas, which Domenicali sees as a huge opportunity for growth.

“It’s really fascinating,” he shared with BBC. “Not long ago, we struggled to have even one race here. Now, suddenly, we have three, and interest is soaring.”

Who is Formula 1’s competition?

Formula 1 aims to expand further. Domenicali has a clear vision: “Our audience watches movies and events; we’re part of that world now. We need to think big and stop seeing ourselves as just another motorsport. Our goal is to be strong in a market full of choices,” he explained.

Fans might wonder if F1 can really stand out among so many entertainment options.

Domenicali wants F1 to be inclusive and loved worldwide. “I want people to have fun and enjoy being part of it while ensuring respect is always present. We hope the world can learn from us on how to behave,” he concluded passionately.

What do you think about these plans?
