Sergio Perez‘s future at Red Bull Racing isn’t as uncertain as some might think – at least according to his father, who’s pushing back hard against recent speculation about his son’s seat for 2025.
While Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko keeps hinting at possible driver changes after this season, Antonio Perez Garibay isn’t having any of it.
"My son’s made it here on pure talent," the proud father told ESPN. "I’m not like Mr. Stroll – I can’t just buy a Formula 1 team. Checo earned his way here on his own merit."
It’s a pointed reference to Lance Stroll, whose billionaire father Lawrence purchased the Aston Martin F1 team.
Right now, Checo Perez is one of the biggest sports stars in Latin America. His success has sparked what his father calls "a revolution" in Mexican motorsport.
"He’s the most famous person in this country, in the world, and in Latin America," Garibay said, perhaps getting a bit carried away with his enthusiasm.
The younger Perez has certainly made history. He’s the first Mexican driver to finish as runner-up in the F1 championship, and he’s helped Red Bull secure two consecutive constructors’ titles.
But his father isn’t just defending past achievements – he’s adamant about the future too.
"We’ve got Checo for the next two years," he insisted. "And trust me, you haven’t seen his best yet."
It’s worth noting that while Perez does have a contract through 2024, Red Bull hasn’t officially confirmed their driver lineup for 2025. The team has a history of making mid-season driver changes when performance doesn’t meet their expectations.
Still, Perez’s recent form suggests he’s not going anywhere soon. He’s currently sitting second in the championship behind teammate Max Verstappen.
