A year ago, Lewis Hamilton thrilled Brazilian fans by driving one of Ayrton Senna’s most iconic McLaren cars around the Interlagos circuit.
The seven-time world champion took to the track in the historic McLaren MP4/5B – the same car Senna used to win his second World Championship title in 1990.
Hamilton drove the legendary machine in rainy conditions just before the race started. The demonstration was part of “Senna Sempre,” a special tribute marking 30 years since the Brazilian hero’s tragic death at Imola on May 1, 1994.
In a touching moment, Hamilton grabbed a Brazilian flag toward the end of his lap, waving it proudly as he passed the cheering crowd.
“It was the greatest honour of my career,” Hamilton said afterward.
The emotional tribute came during one of Hamilton’s final race weekends with Mercedes before his big move to Ferrari this year.
Unfortunately, the actual race didn’t go well for him. Hamilton finished a disappointing 10th, while his teammate George Russell narrowly missed the podium, coming in behind both Alpine drivers.
## Will Interlagos bring its famous rain show again?
Last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix turned into a weather nightmare as torrential rain created extreme racing conditions.
Max Verstappen showed why he’s considered one of the best wet-weather drivers in the sport. Starting way back in 17th place, the Dutch champion put on a masterclass.
He sliced through the field with incredible skill (and a bit of luck from a well-timed red flag) to take the checkered flag. The victory ended a months-long winless streak for Verstappen.
Will Mother Nature throw another curveball this weekend? Or will drivers finally get to race in dry conditions?
The weather forecast will be crucial as teams prepare their strategies for what’s always one of F1’s most unpredictable races.
