On Saturday, Logan Sargeant out-qualified Sergio Perez again. However, he couldn’t maintain that lead in Sunday’s race, finishing behind the Mexican driver.
Starting from P14, Sargeant was upset with how other drivers treated him during qualifying. He felt they didn’t give him enough space, unlike Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. On Sunday, he ended up in P17, three places lower than his starting position.
Reflecting on his performance after the race, Sargeant said: “It was okay. I had a really bad start. I just didn’t move off the line. Around here, it’s an uphill battle from there. I feel like from a pace perspective, it was a good day. From a personal point of view, I think we struggled a little bit as a team. But, hey, it is what it is. Just disappointed with my start. Other than that, I think I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Future Uncertainty
Sargeant’s future in F1 looks shaky as team boss James Vowles has hinted at exploring other options for 2025. To keep his seat, Sargeant needs to step up his game significantly this season.
Despite scoring only one point in his rookie year and none so far this season, Sargeant found some solace in overtaking Perez early on: “I shouldn’t have been in that position; it was just because I had such a bad start that I ended up pretty much at the back,” he noted.
Fans might wonder if these struggles will affect his confidence moving forward.
Expectations for Spa
Looking ahead to the Belgium Grand Prix before the summer break, Sargeant remains hopeful: “Things are progressing in the right direction,” he said optimistically. “I think we just need to keep chipping away we’re doing all the right things. it’s getting better every weekend.”
