Sainz Declares: ‘I Won’t Stay Behind Leclerc Forever’

Charles Leclerc wasn’t pleased with Carlos Sainz during the Spanish GP. He accused Sainz of trying to do “something spectacular” at a bad time, thinking it might help him in contract talks for a 2025 seat. Sainz doesn’t fully agree with this view.

Leclerc says Sainz attacked early, which wasn’t part of their plan. But Sainz remembers it differently.

“He complained about something too many times after the race,” Sainz laughed, according to Motorsport-Total.com. “I wonder if he means it at this point in the season. I attacked, we had fresh soft tyres on, Mercedes too, and we had to attack the first few laps with fresh tyres and try to overtake them. That’s what we said before the race.”

Different Perspectives:

At Sky’s Italian branch, Sainz was asked about Leclerc’s comment again. “I don’t know what happened to Charles on the first lap,” he said. “I don’t know if he made a mistake, but I had the chance to overtake him, and it’s not like I can hang around behind him for the rest of my life.”

Fans might think this drama adds excitement to the races.

Sainz added that from that moment on, he could attack Mercedes and almost overtook them in the first stint .
