Renault CEO Admits: ‘Our Presence in F1 Has Faded’

Renault has decided to stop making its own Formula 1 engines after 2025. This news was confirmed by Luca de Meo, who shared Alpine’s future plans in the sport.

On Monday, Renault announced it would end its F1 engine production, affecting workers at Viry-Châtillon. These workers will now move to different projects. “It is a very emotional subject, first of all for me,” said De Meo. “I am very passionate about it. It is heartbreaking. This decision has not been taken lightly.”

Renault’s Past and Future in F1

Renault had great success with Red Bull from 2010-2013 but struggled since the hybrid era began. De Meo explained, “I am a manager. I manage a listed company. And I have to rethink the F1 project to finally win.”

Challenges and Changes

“We have become invisible,” De Meo admitted. “Two more years like this and the project would completely collapse.” He mentioned financial reasons too, as Alpine’s low standings meant fewer bonuses and sponsors. Fans might wonder if this change will bring better results.

Alpine could benefit from being a customer team when new rules come in 2026, possibly leading to more success without engine worries. Time will reveal if this bold choice was right.
