Red Bull updates showing real promise at Spa
Red Bull’s technical boss Pierre Waché believes their recent car upgrades are starting to pay off. The team brought a new package to the Belgian Grand Prix, and the improvements were immediately noticeable.
Sprint qualifying proved challenging for the team, as Waché explained: “Sprint Quali is always a difficult exercise, in the sense that you don’t have so much practice beforehand, only FP1, and you change tyres during the session.”
Yuki Tsunoda narrowly missed advancing to the final qualifying segment.
“Yuki was one tenth behind the cutoff, unfortunately, and he did that on his second lap, making a mistake at T4, and without that, he would have been in SQ3,” Waché said after the session.
Max Verstappen secured second place in sprint qualifying. He’ll start Saturday’s session from P2, alongside Oscar Piastri who claimed the front row spot. The Australian McLaren driver was simply untouchable, as has often been the case this season.
Lando Norris will line up third behind his teammate and Verstappen.
Updates hitting their mark
The new parts Red Bull brought to Spa-Francorchamps seem to be working as intended.
“What is impressive is the delta to Pole for Max, which is positive,” Waché noted.
The team is feeling confident about their development direction.
“If we concentrate on our side, the package works well and as expected and now we need to see where we can extract the performance during the race.”
Red Bull made some adjustments between sessions to fine-tune their setup. “We changed the rear wing from FP1, to be a little bit complementary to the level of grip we have and we will see what happens on Sunday.”
The real test will come during Sunday’s main race, where we’ll get to see if these updates truly deliver when it matters most.
