Sergio Perez really needed the summer break.
He had a tough time in the last few races before the break, but he got to stay with Red Bull Racing. This break allowed him to reset and come back ready to help his team win the world title.
“I took a break from it and switched myself off for a while, although in the background you always keep in touch with the engineers and what’s going on,” Perez told reporters. “It was, I would say, a very positive break for Red Bull. We were able to find many things that I think at least now we know where we are with the car. There have been a few updates that probably put us on the wrong track.”
Perez hopes his team can fix the issues and get back to how they were performing at the start of 2024. He wants to move up from his current seventh place in the World Cup standings, especially since Verstappen is sitting comfortably in first place.
Perez still in RB20
Red Bull wondered if they should keep Perez because of his seventh-place standing. After some discussions between Christian Horner and Helmut Marko during the summer break, they decided he could stay. But did Perez worry about losing his spot?
“It was mostly pure speculation. I don’t think the meeting had anything to do with the drivers. It was all about performance. I think I have already said everything I needed to say about speculation. I am fully committed to the team here. I have a contract for the next two years and I am fully committed to Red Bull to get back on top,” he concluded.
Fans might wonder if this decision will help or hurt Red Bull’s chances.
