Rain Disrupts Pirelli Test for Red Bull & McLaren

Rain stopped Red Bull Racing and McLaren from testing Pirelli tires at Mugello Circuit.

Liam Lawson, Lando Norris, and Charles Leclerc were supposed to gather data for Pirelli on Wednesday.

Mick Schumacher, the Mercedes test driver, had a similar problem when rain messed up his Pirelli test day. On Tuesday, the skies opened up again, causing chaos. The rain was so heavy that the emergency helicopter couldn’t even fly, making it impossible for drivers to carry out their planned activities.

Two different testing plans were in place. Lawson was set to try out the 2025 F1 tires for Red Bull Racing one last time before he moves to VCARB in Austin after Daniel Ricciardo‘s exit. Meanwhile, Norris was going to test prototype tires meant for the 2026 season.

These new prototypes have an 18-inch diameter like current tires but are a bit smaller in width and outer diameter on both front and rear axles. If the weather behaves, they’ll pick up where they left off on Wednesday with the same teams and drivers. Ferrari’s Leclerc will also join them on the track.

Fans might wonder if these delays will affect future races.

What do you think about all this rain messing up their plans?
