Lewis Hamilton is on the brink of setting new records at the Hungarian Grand Prix, including his 200th podium in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen is also close to achieving significant milestones this weekend.
Hamilton’s Potential Records in Hungary:
Mercedes has dominated the last two races. After Verstappen and Lando Norris collided in Austria, George Russell took the win. At Silverstone, Mercedes showed strength again with both cars on the front row. Although Russell had to retire, Hamilton clinched his first victory in almost three years.
Since their upgrades in Canada, Mercedes has been back in form and are expected to perform well again in Hungary. Despite struggles at other tracks recently, they’ve taken every pole position here since 2020. If they secure another pole this year, it will make five consecutive poles at this circuit—a record no team has achieved before.
If Hamilton grabs pole position in Hungary for 2024, he’ll be the first driver ever to take ten poles at a single venue. Finishing on the podium would mark his 200th career podium—45 more than Michael Schumacher‘s tally. Verstappen currently sits at 107 podiums.
Leading for just 13 laps would make Hamilton the first driver to lead 500 laps at one circuit. A win would be his ninth victory here, tying his own record for most wins at a single track set recently at Silverstone. If Mercedes finishes one-two, they’ll become only the second team with 60 such finishes in F1 history .
Other Milestones and Records This Weekend:
Should Lando Norris win this race, it will be historic—three different British drivers winning three consecutive races hasn’t happened since 1965! Some fans think McLaren could have won those previous races too.
If Verstappen doesn’t get P1 on Saturday but wins Sunday’s race, he joins Schumacher, Hamilton, and Prost with 30 wins without starting from pole position.
Ferrari needs just 26 points to reach a massive milestone: being the first team ever to score 10,000 points in Formula One history! Red Bull follows them with over 7,600 points. A single point for Red Bull means surpassing Mercedes (2018-2021) and Ferrari (1999-2003) for longest streak of consecutive points finishes—but Ferrari’s best streak between 2010-2014 still falls short of all-time records.
Fans are eagerly waiting to see how these milestones unfold during an exciting weekend ahead!
