Oscar Piastri is gearing up for what could be his breakthrough year in Formula 1, and he’s making big changes to get ready.
The 23-year-old Aussie will kick off his third F1 season at his home track in Melbourne next month. After two impressive years that saw him grab two wins with McLaren, he’s looking stronger than ever.
Those victories in just his second season showed everyone he’s got what it takes to compete at the highest level. Now, with McLaren’s orange rockets expected to be fighting at the front again, Piastri’s got a real shot at making some noise in the championship battle.
But beating Max Verstappen isn’t going to be easy. That’s why Piastri’s shaking things up this winter with a new Performance Coach to help him prepare better than ever.
"I’ve been in F1 for a couple of years now, so I’m starting to understand better what parts of my body I need to train more and what things I need to work on," Piastri said on McLaren’s website.
He’s loving the fresh approach to training.
"It’s been quite fun getting used to some different things," he explained. "Otherwise, it’s just improving on my general level of fitness, keeping my muscular level of fitness going and trying to prepare my neck."
Right now, Piastri’s putting in the final preparation work with his new trainer in the UK.
The next big event on his calendar is the ‘F1 75’ livery reveal at London’s O2 Arena later this month. That’s where fans will get their first look at all the new cars for the upcoming season.
After that, it’s off to Bahrain for pre-season testing, where we’ll get our first real hint of whether McLaren and Piastri can take the fight to Verstappen and Red Bull this year.
