Former England cricketer Graeme Swann couldn’t resist taking a playful dig at F1 star Oscar Piastri during a cricket match in Melbourne.
“He’s smaller than I thought. I know the F1 drivers are small, but massive neck. When you meet F1 drivers, they’ve all got huge necks. But you know, he’s not the world champion like Lando,” Swann quipped on the Willow Talk Cricket Podcast.
The Australian driver was enjoying The Ashes in his hometown – the legendary Test series between England and Australia that cricket fans go crazy for.
Piastri probably didn’t expect to become the target of some friendly banter while watching the match.
It wasn’t the only awkward moment for Piastri at the cricket. He was also put on the spot with questions about his McLaren teammate Lando Norris.
This comes after a nail-biting F1 season finale in Abu Dhabi where Norris clinched the world championship by the skin of his teeth – just two points ahead of Max Verstappen.
Piastri finished a close third, only 13 points behind Norris.
What makes it even more impressive is that Piastri had actually led the championship standings for a whopping fifteen races during the season.
Now that the F1 season is over, the young Aussie has headed home to recharge before the next campaign kicks off.
Will Piastri have a real shot at winning the title in 2026? That’s the million-dollar question.
There’s still a lot of uncertainty about which teams will have the fastest cars when everyone lines up on the grid in a few months’ time.
For a driver who came so close to glory this year, you can bet he’ll be hungrier than ever when racing resumes.
