Oscar Piastri Negotiating with Rival Teams, Reveals Former McLaren Driver

Juan Pablo Montoya claims Oscar Piastri is already looking beyond McLaren

Bombshell rumors are swirling around Oscar Piastri’s future at McLaren, with former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya claiming the Australian and his manager Mark Webber are already exploring options with rival teams.

“I guarantee you that Oscar Piastri and Mark Webber are already talking to another F1 team,” Montoya told a gambling platform.

The Colombian didn’t hold back, suggesting there’s growing tension behind the scenes at McLaren.

“I don’t think Mark Webber was satisfied with Oscar’s development at McLaren. Mark isn’t very happy with McLaren. But the question is whether Oscar is very unhappy with McLaren.”

Montoya also warned that Piastri needs to be careful not to let his manager’s own F1 career frustrations cloud his judgment.

“I think they need to be careful and make sure that Webber’s scars from his time as a race car driver have nothing to do with Oscar’s career.”

Piastri’s 2025 season was truly a story of two halves.

The 24-year-old dominated the first part of the year, racking up an impressive seven race victories. But then everything changed.

He couldn’t secure a single win in the final nine races of the season, ultimately losing the drivers’ championship to his teammate Lando Norris.

## Herbert sees potential McLaren exit

Johnny Herbert, former F1 driver and race steward, believes Piastri could actually leave McLaren in the near future.

The three-time Grand Prix winner even suggested Piastri might end up at another top team – potentially alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing.

It’s a situation that few would have predicted given McLaren’s resurgence as a championship contender.
