Esteban Ocon is leaving Alpine at the end of this season, but he received a special gift.
Last week, Ocon was given the car he used to win the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix.
In 2021, Ocon achieved an unexpected victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Three years later, he has now received that very car, the A521, which was delivered to his family. “That’s something that’s been written in the contract. Amazing, obviously, to finally receive it. I’ve waited a long time, but it’s now a past-generation car. It’s like a historic car now, which is quite crazy. The emotions that we went through, my parents and all the people I love were there. And to see it coming in the garage was more than special. At the same time, we put some old suits, some old trophies as well. And I got to see all the trophies that I got throughout my career. It was very emotional. We had a little cry with my dad.”
A Special Gift for the Ocon Family
If Ocon wins another race in future seasons, he might get another car too! “For that, I have to read back (my contract), but probably yes.” He mentioned that it would be a complete car with an engine and gearbox included. Will he drive it again? “One day if I want to run it again… maybe in 10 or 15 years? Why not? It’s like having a special track day car.”
Right now, this prized possession sits in his father’s garage. “It is planned to move somewhere else where it will be on display and other people will be able to see it as well,” said Ocon. But for now? It’s staying at home so everyone can enjoy it together.
His father took extra care of their garage for this occasion: “He’s cleaned the garage for three days and made sure you could eat on the floor,” shared Ocon proudly.
Fans might think it’s really cool how much effort his dad put into making everything perfect!
Reflecting on that memorable race day when asked about how they managed such an unexpected win: “Well we’ve done it,” said Ocon simply yet powerfully emphasizing its importance despite not having expected such success due lack speed initially seen during practice runs; however solid teamwork allowed them maximize performance ultimately leading victory resisting pressure from four-time world champion behind whole race making highlight career thus far!
What do you think about keeping such memorable items at home versus putting them on public display?
