Norris Thanks Piastri in Emotional F1 Victory Speech at Home Grand Prix

Lando Norris has finally returned to McLaren headquarters as a World Champion, celebrating his incredible achievement with the entire team that helped make it happen.

The 26-year-old became just the 35th driver in history to claim Formula 1’s ultimate prize, edging out Max Verstappen by a nail-biting two points at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

All he needed was a podium finish to secure the championship. And that’s exactly what he delivered.

“It’s unbelievable to be here as a Drivers’ World Champion,” Norris told the assembled staff at McLaren’s Technology Centre in Woking.

The title fight couldn’t have been closer. Norris finished the season with 423 points, with Verstappen just behind at 421 and teammate Oscar Piastri completing the top three with 410 points.

“It’s been my dream since all those years ago, watching on TV and wondering what it’s like to be there one day,” he continued. “I had no idea about what it takes, and what it could mean to everyone, not just to me.”

What mattered most to Norris wasn’t just the trophy or the title, but sharing it with those who made it possible.

“One of the things that’s most important to me has been the people who helped get us to this point. Whether it’s my family, friends, management, trainer, but also the people who design, create and build the car, my mechanics, and my engineers.”

His voice cracked slightly as he added: “What puts a smile on my face is seeing the team’s reaction – that’s my biggest motivation. It means nothing without the people who helped you achieve it.”

## A Hero’s Welcome

When Norris arrived at McLaren’s headquarters, the entire team lined up to form a guard of honor, cheering wildly as their champion walked through.

The scene was particularly special as a showcar of Norris’ 2025 championship-winning machine was displayed next to Lewis Hamilton‘s 2008 McLaren chassis – the last time McLaren celebrated a drivers’ champion before Norris.

That’s a 17-year wait finally ended.

McLaren has undergone a remarkable transformation, going from midfield strugglers just a few years ago to now claiming back-to-back Constructors’ Championships.

Piastri and Norris have formed one of the strongest driver partnerships on the grid, and Norris made sure to acknowledge his teammate’s contribution.

“Racing alongside Oscar the last three seasons has pushed me a lot more. He’s played a massive part in this,” Norris said about his Australian teammate. “He’s been my teammate, and we’ve helped each other. He’s made the journey better, with an incredible fight right to the very end.”

The emotion was clear as Norris concluded his speech to the team.

“I would like to say a big thank you from the bottom of my heart to every single person in the team. Everyone plays a part in our story. I will remember it for the rest of my life. Here’s to many more.”

With both championships now secured, the question on everyone’s mind is whether this marks the beginning of a new McLaren dynasty in Formula 1.
