Norris’ Surprisingly Calm Reaction to Verstappen’s Strong Start

Lando Norris started the race at Zandvoort in pole position but quickly lost it to Max Verstappen due to a poor start. Despite this setback, he managed to win the Dutch Grand Prix, marking his second career victory.

Earlier this year, Norris also won in Miami. At Zandvoort, his McLaren proved faster in the end, allowing him to reclaim the lead and secure the win.

Norris remained calm when Verstappen overtook him

After the race, Norris explained that he stayed confident even after losing the lead. “After yesterday we were confident the pace was going to be good for sure,” he said. He mentioned that although Friday’s long run pace looked promising, you can never be certain in a 72-lap race.

He also noted that Verstappen’s pace on Friday wasn’t bad either. “You could already pick apart a bit of it and kind of give yourself some confidence,” he added. However, Norris didn’t expect to easily pass Verstappen and control the race as he did.

Norris kept his cool and managed to overtake Verstappen on track. “I didn’t expect things to go as well as they did,” he admitted. After losing the lead at turn one, he remained surprisingly calm. “Maybe because I’m used to going backwards at the start,” he joked.

Fans might think it’s impressive how Norris handled the pressure so well.

Norris focused on saving his tires and monitoring his pace. Around laps 10-13, he got optimistic about passing Verstappen again. “I had two chances,” he said. The first attempt failed, but on the next lap, it worked out perfectly.

In the end, Norris’s calmness and strategy paid off with a victory. What do you think about his performance?
