Norris: Learning from Verstappen for 2025 F1 Title Fight

Lando Norris is on the verge of something special in Abu Dhabi. The McLaren driver could grab his fourth win of the season – and help his team secure their first constructors’ championship in 26 years.

But he’s got his sights set on an even bigger prize.

The 24-year-old has been Max Verstappen‘s biggest headache throughout 2024, especially after McLaren’s game-changing upgrades following the Miami GP. Despite pushing the champion hard, Verstappen’s consistency proved too much, with the Dutchman wrapping up the title in Las Vegas.

“I think the one thing I’ve learned this year is probably to believe in myself a bit more,” Norris said after clinching his latest victory. “I haven’t always come out on top against Max, and that stings. But you know what? I’m actually glad now – it’s given me the confidence to know I can fight at the front.”

Norris has always been tough on himself. It’s just who he is.

But something’s changed in these final races. He’s found another gear.

“I know better than anyone where I need to improve,” he admits. “I’m always open to criticism, but at the end of the day, I know my strengths and weaknesses better than anyone else. Not trying to be arrogant – it’s just facts. And I’ve made huge strides, especially in these last few races.”

The constructors’ title would be amazing for McLaren, but Norris is already thinking about 2025. He wants it all.

“This is our goal as a team – we want both championships next year,” he says with newfound confidence. “Sure, I made some mistakes this season, but I’ve learned so much from Max and everyone else. I’m happy with where we are now, but man, I can’t wait to get started next year.”

The young Brit’s evolution from promising talent to championship contender has been something to watch. And with McLaren’s incredible turnaround this season, 2025 could be the year Norris takes that final step.
