Lando Norris had a tough qualifying session in Azerbaijan, finishing 17th and missing out on Q1. He needs to make a big comeback to catch up with Max Verstappen in the title race.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I’ll have to answer during the race and go forward and overtake. It’s not as simple as saying it,” Norris said about his expectations for Sunday’s Grand Prix in Baku.
McLaren has announced that Norris will get priority over Oscar Piastri this weekend to boost his chances for the drivers’ world championship title. When asked if he expects Piastri to help him, Norris replied, “No, that would be stupid.”
Norris worried about DRS train:
Norris is concerned about overtaking difficulties. “I think everything is kind of going to have to be done with strategy because you can’t overtake. There’s plenty of cars at the back which just kind of take all the wing off and just hope for the best. That makes it impossible for a lot of cars to overtake them.”
He added, “So I mean the car’s quick and we kind of hope that it can come into our hands and at some point I can get clean air. But on the street circuit, everything gets backed up so much. You just kind of get forced into a position and you can’t do a lot of times. So we’ll hope for the best, but I don’t expect anything magical unless a strategy comes into play.”
Fans might wonder if this will affect his championship hopes.
What do you think? Can Norris pull off a miracle on Sunday?
