Flavio Briatore has a tough job ahead. He needs to help decide who will be the second driver next to Pierre Gasly and think about the long-term plans for Alpine’s F1 team.
Mercedes might sell engines to Alpine, and Toto Wolff is open to it. He thinks having another customer team could help improve their power unit faster but says it’s up to Alpine to decide.
McLaren’s Take on Alpine-Mercedes
McLaren, already using Mercedes engines, doesn’t mind if Alpine gets them too. Lando Norris won the Miami Grand Prix with a Mercedes engine, and McLaren’s car is super fast right now. Zak Brown, McLaren’s CEO, supports the idea.
“What’s good for Mercedes is as good for McLaren as far as we’re concerned,” he says. “They’ve been an awesome partner to work with. So if it adds value to their power unit proposition, then we’re all for it.”
Brown suggests that Alpine should decide quickly about teaming up with Mercedes: “I think the sooner you can make a decision on any decision that you make, it’s just better time for preparations.” Fans might think this makes sense since more time means better planning!
He also adds that they should probably decide before the summer break so they have enough time to get used to the new engines and ways of working.
What do you guys think? Should Alpine go for Mercedes engines or stick with Renault?
