Formula One has seen many teams dominate over the years, with Red Bull Racing and Mercedes being the most recent champions.
Zak Brown, McLaren’s CEO, knows what it takes for his team to be on top again.
“If you look at Red Bull the last few years and Mercedes before that, typically the teams that win the championship are the best at everything, not most things,” Brown told theScore. “If you look at Red Bull the last few years, they’ve had the fastest car. They’ve had the least amount of tyre deg. They’ve had the best pit stops. They’ve had the complete package to win on a regular basis.” Red Bull have won the Constructors for two seasons in a row and are leading in 2024 too, with Ferrari trailing by 49 points. McLaren is currently third.
McLaren’s Progress
This year has been good for McLaren. They’ve been on the podium often since China and celebrated their first race win since 2021 when Lando Norris won in Miami in May. The team believes having two strong drivers is key to success – something Red Bull struggles with lately as Sergio Perez hasn’t finished well in recent races.
Fans might think this could be McLaren’s big chance!
Zak Brown sees an opportunity: “I think we have two great drivers. We clearly have a very fast race car. We have very good pit stops but can still improve. Our reliability is much stronger. We’re knocking on the door.”
