The F1 drama continues as Mexico City looms this weekend, with Verstappen and Norris taking very different approaches to their predictions.
“The beauty of it is we’ll find out next week,” Verstappen said, keeping his cards close to his chest after his commanding win in Austin.
The championship battle is heating up with just five Grand Prix and two Sprints remaining this season.
Verstappen refused to speculate about his chances in Mexico City.
“I don’t really think about it. We’ll find out next week. We could speculate, but I don’t like that,” the typically straightforward Dutchman explained.
Meanwhile, Norris was much more forthcoming about what fans might expect from the upcoming race.
“Probably the same as here. I don’t think it’ll change that much. It’s close between us and Red Bull — one weekend they’re a little bit quicker, the next we’re a little bit faster,” the Brit said.
He also reminded everyone that the competition extends beyond just McLaren and Red Bull.
“Mercedes was quickest in Singapore. So, yes, you can have many different things here, but we’re going to see.”
## Championship battle tightening up
The Austin weekend proved crucial for Verstappen’s title hopes.
He managed to slash the gap in the drivers’ standings considerably, now sitting just 40 points behind Oscar Piastri with several races still to go.
Norris has also made significant gains. He’s now 26 points ahead of Verstappen and only 14 points behind his McLaren teammate Piastri.
Could we see a three-way fight for the championship as we head into the final races of the season?
The recent form suggests it’s definitely possible, with performance margins between the top teams razor-thin at most circuits.
With Mexico City’s unique high-altitude challenges, the technical battle between teams will be just as interesting as the one between drivers.
