Daniel Ricciardo has just left Visa Cash App RB, but the team is still buzzing with rumors.
Now, the buzz is about Liam Lawson, who will step in for Ricciardo starting from the United States Grand Prix. There are whispers that he might even partner with Max Verstappen at Red Bull next season if he impresses.
Lawson was named Yuki Tsunoda‘s teammate recently. Though this arrangement is only until the end of the current season, there’s a chance he could stay on for 2025 if he performs well. Some media outlets from Australia and New Zealand suggest that if he does well, Lawson could replace Sergio Perez at Red Bull Racing.
Can Perez stay on in ’25?
Perez has a contract for next year, but everyone knows it doesn’t guarantee he’ll finish the season. If Red Bull decides to replace him, Lawson seems like the obvious choice to team up with Verstappen. Christian Horner isn’t keen on promoting Yuki Tsunoda.
Rumors say Lawson was promoted to VCARB early so they could see if he’s ready for Red Bull Racing. There were also talks about him having an option to race in at least five Grands Prix, but that’s not true. However, Red Bull had to inform Lawson by September 15 if there would be a seat for him in 2025.
So, Lawson will be in Formula 1 next season too. But the big question is: Will he be Verstappen’s or Tsunoda’s teammate? Fans might wonder how this will shake things up! If Lawson moves up to Red Bull Racing, Isack Hadjar—currently a reserve driver—would likely take his spot at VCARB next year.
