Max Verstappen vs Lando Norris: Mexico GP Title Battle Heats Up

Norris Eyes Championship Lead in Mexico

Lando Norris has a golden opportunity to grab the championship lead today in Mexico City, something he hasn’t done since the early races this season.

But you wouldn’t know it from his calm demeanor.

“The same as every day. I’m just excited to go race, excited to have some fun here in Mexico City,” Norris said during the drivers’ parade when asked about possibly moving to the top of the standings.

The McLaren driver starts from pole position and seems focused solely on the race ahead, not the bigger championship implications.

What about celebrating if he wins? Don’t expect wild parties this time.

“No, certainly not. Not this year. I sleep and I go home — but I’m going to celebrate. I always like it here. I’ve partied here in the past, and it’s a great place. So maybe, maybe next time.”

His teammate Oscar Piastri will start from seventh, one spot better than his qualifying position.

This boost comes thanks to Carlos Sainz‘s penalty for crashing into Kimi Antonelli last weekend in Austin. The Ferrari driver drops to 12th on the grid.

Meanwhile, Max Verstappen lurks in fifth, ready to challenge the McLarens and defend his championship points lead.

The Dutch driver will need a strong start if he hopes to prevent Norris from taking control of the title battle with just a handful of races remaining.

Today’s race could prove pivotal in what has become an increasingly tight championship fight.
