After the 2026 event, the Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort will disappear from the F1 calendar. Fans will only get to enjoy two more races at the iconic circuit nestled in the Dutch dunes.
Max Verstappen shared his thoughts on racing at his home track during a recent Viaplay press event at Zandvoort.
The Dutch circuit, famous for its electric atmosphere, only returned to Formula 1 in 2021. Now it’s set to vanish again after 2026, despite delivering some truly memorable race weekends.
“When I look back to ten, 11 years ago, of course I never expected this,” Verstappen said. “Having your own ‘home’ Grand Prix is of course very special, but if you then also manage to win it… that’s been incredible.”
The three-time world champion ranks his Zandvoort victories among his most treasured racing memories.
“Of all the experiences and victories I’ve had so far, that has been very special.”
While disappointed about the track’s upcoming exit, Verstappen seems to understand the business realities of Formula 1’s packed calendar.
“Of course it’s very unfortunate, but I also understand it,” he admitted, before mentioning there are still quite a few things his team needs to improve before the new season kicks off next week.
Verstappen dominated his home race for three straight years, winning in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
His winning streak finally ended in 2024 when Lando Norris and his lightning-fast McLaren MCL38 proved too much for Verstappen’s RB20.
Despite this setback, the Dutch driver looks back with immense pride on racing at Zandvoort. “I think we should just look back at a lot of great years, a very special circuit and a very special atmosphere, which other Grands Prix have learned a lot from.”
The unique Zandvoort experience has indeed raised the bar for what a modern F1 event can be, with its passionate orange-clad fans creating an atmosphere more like a festival than a traditional race weekend.
