Max Verstappen: Racing Beyond F1 ‘Feels Natural’

Max Verstappen just can’t seem to stay away from fast cars – even when he’s not dominating Formula 1.

The four-time F1 world champion recently hopped behind the wheel of an Acura ARX-06 prototype race car, proving once again he can make pretty much anything with four wheels go incredibly fast.

“It is very nice. I enjoyed it a lot,” Verstappen said after testing the Honda Racing Corporation machine. “I jumped in; it felt quite natural.”

The Dutch racing star has been spending time in simulators practicing with these types of cars, but this was his first chance to try one for real.

“I was happy with what I was doing and I had fun out there,” he said. “It’s nothing serious, but at least Honda gave me the opportunity to get a feel for the car.”

His F1 colleague Yuki Tsunoda was also at the test session, though he got to try out an IndyCar instead. Verstappen didn’t seem to mind missing out on the open-wheel experience.

“I like to drive a lot of cars, but it also depends on the timing,” he explained. “For me it was only possible to drive with the GTP, but anyway, that was also what I wanted.”

Beyond just testing different race cars, Verstappen’s got bigger plans brewing.

He’s been pretty open about wanting to start his own racing team someday. Through his company Verstappen.com Racing, he’s already supporting two drivers – Thierry Vermeulen in DTM and GT racing, and his dad Jos Verstappen, who tried his hand at rally racing this year.

The team recently shared a video showing off one of their branded race cars in the garage, hinting at more exciting things to come.

Verstappen’s also heavily involved with Team Redline, showing he’s serious about building his presence across different types of motorsport.
